Organic baby food
Following a report by the British Working Party on Pesticide Residues in 1999 it was found that more than 12 percent of conventional baby foods containing fruit and vegetables were contaminated with pesticide resuidues. Given their limited sample sample size, they further concluded that the figures were probably 20 percent higher.
It's now very easy to buy organic baby food off the shelf of large supermarkets or via the Internet but take care with the marketing hype. No artificial colours or preservatives are allowed into baby food by law. Any company relying on this to market their product is hardly breaking new quality boundaries.
Look for recognised organic labelling and more specifically an organic name such as 'Organic Lamb Casserole' rather than 'Contains Organic Potatoes'. The former has a much higher proportion of organic ingredients than the latter. If it's organic they will be telling you about it loud and clear, if they don't then you can guarantee that it isn't organic!
