Organic beer, lager and cider
 As
in all other areas of organic food and drink consumption, the demand for
organic beer, lager and cider is booming. Organic beers and lagers are
starting to appear on supermarket shelves, so it is no longer necessary
to hunt out a specialist supplier, although specialists are likely to
have a wider and more varied range of organic products for you to choose
from.
Organic hops are not always easy to grow in the UK, but producers are
starting to appear and more are sure to follow. Instead, organic hops
are imported and processed organically by UK brewers, of which there are
a growing number, all certified by the Soil Association.
Organic cider is made in largely the same way as conventional cider.
The difference is that organic cider must be made from apples grown in
organic orchards, and any additives must be approved by the Soil Association
or must themselves be organically produced.
