Key organic gardening tips

Make your own compost

Organic compost is a great soil conditioner, is nutrient rich and will give your plants, crops and flowers all they need to prosper.

Keep weeds under control

Weeds can be useful for an organic garden. They attract insects and wildlife that will help your plants avoid infestations. But it is all about balance. Don't let too many weeds develop or your plants will struggle to get the nutrients they need.

Pest control

Organic gardening does make it more difficult to manage pests, however, there are a number of methods that can be used. Rotating the location of your plants/crops, avoiding clustering and encouraging varied wildlife are all important. See our pest control page for more tips.

Managing disease

Keeping your soil healthy is a key factor in managing disease. Make sure your soil is well composted as nutrient rich soil encourages good plant health. Avoid letting your garden become dry too often - stressed plants are more susceptable to disease. Crop/plant rotation also helps as it avoids a build up of soil based issues.
