Organic cosmetics
 'If you wouldn't want to eat it, don't put it on your skin' - a maxim
that many beauty therapists will be familiar with, and one that makes
a great deal of sense when you consider that anything you put on your
skin will be absorbed into your body.
So, if you have the time, energy and enthusiasm, consider making your
own cosmetics and toiletries. All you need is a few common ingredients
(organic, of course), a few recipes, a little time and away you go.
For example, a little honey, yoghurt and oatmeal combined can provide
a very invigorating facial scrub. We've all seen pictures of women with
slices of cucumber over their eyes - refreshing and toning. Chamomile
is well known for enhancing the highlights in blonde hair. Honey has a
wide variety of uses, one of which is as a very effective moisturiser.
These form just very few of the possiblities. Tea Tree oil is a well
known antiseptic that can be used to treat minor skin blemishes such as
spots. Hemp oil is making a comeback in a wide range of beauty and personal
hygiene products, largely because of its moisturising properties.
